Presentation
The Interreg project CO2REDRES “Treatment of secondary raw materials for the reduction of CO2 emissions in the construction industry” gathers 18 partners from the Greater Region for the period 2020-2023 with a budget of 1 246 590 euros (747 953,84 € financed by ERDF).
The aim of this research project is to propose a novel and sustainable binder concept for concrete mixes based on the revalorization of industrial wastes and by-products originating from the Greater Region and their use as substitute materials to cement. The cross-border cooperation of the research institutions and industrial partners in the Greater Region provides the sharing of know-how from the companies and research expertise from the partner universities to add value to the project and guarantee its success covering a large area for potential raw material sources and all profiting from the cross-border knowledge exchange. The final outcome will then be the mapping of the aforementioned materials in the region, the recommendation on the feasibility of their use as substitutes to cement, and the industrial scaling of possible material activation techniques studied during this project. The benefit for the Greater Region is beyond that of just the partners, it is extended to the environmental and compliance aspects as well as society in general with the setting up of a living lab.
